From The Ashes of Notre Dame

Yesterday, April 15, 2019 was an iconic and historic date.  It marked a pivotal point in our American history, but many may have ignored it's importance.

We stand in a historic era and great time of change.  Just ten years earlier, on this date, a new wave broke across America with the birth and rise of TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Parties.  Americans were fed up with rising socialism, expansive and intrusive government and the destruction of our founding principles that was corrupting our Republic.  With this wave came also a call of a return to our Judaeo-Christian beliefs.

After decades of decline from our founding principles and Constitutional foundation, the TEA Party helped pull them back into the public forum.  Now, on the TEA Party's 10th Anniversary, a new resurgence is awakening.  At the same time, extreme liberalism is creating a dangerous counter culture.

This week, also marks our Christian Holy Week culminating in Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of our Christ, Jesus from death for our salvation.

How ironic, and yes, I will say, it with the hand of God, that on this very date, a fire ravaged one of the most iconic symbols of Judaeo-Christian faith, the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France.

It was the French, who fought at our side in the Revolutionary War.  They gifted us the Statue of Liberty which graces New York Harbor, welcoming visitors and legal immigrants.  It was upon the french shores of Normandy on D-Day that The Allies turned the tide of World War II.

France, whose history is entwined with ours, today, has become the most secular nation in Europe with up to 75% of their citizens who no longer identify with a religion.  Today, the United States of America remains one of the most religious of western nations.

I wonder, if during Holy Week, that God did not send up a wake up call with the fire at Notre Dame?  If in our abandonment of our Faith and embracement of liberalism, were we not sent a message?

During this week, where we contemplate the fall from grace of mankind and it's redemption into eternal salvation, we should take stock of just where we personally and as a nation stand today.

Globally, we have seen the rise of radical Islam and Sharia Law, especially in France, Germany, United Kingdom and domestically here in America.  At the same time, we have witnesses public derision of Christianity and Judaism.  We have seen our political leaders publicly make anti-Semetic statements with no repercussions or public outcry.  We have seen approximately 60 million abortions of pre-born children since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling.  That would equal ten times the number of people murdered in the Holocaust of World War II, or fill the 2019 Super Bowl Stadium 200 times over.  Liberal states have passed legislation legalizing late term abortions.  Criminal aliens are accorded more privilege and government benefits than legal residents and citizens or military veterans.  At times, it seems we are living in a topsy-turvey age.

So, during this Holy Week, are we not sent a message, which is made more poignant with the picture of the French emergency workers as they gazed upon Notre Dame's Altar Cross, amid the burnt rubble, shining with hope and promise of redemption?

What's wrong with New Yorks Abortion bill

In response to a Letter to the Editor “Look closer at abortion bill” Beaufort Gazette, 02/15/2019, in reference to New York States recently passed “Reproductive Health Act” S00240.  Many of us did take a good look at the bill and want to correct the writer’s errors.

Section 2599-aa, paragraph 2 states “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child,  or  to have an abortion, pursuant to this article.

This means, up to time of birth.  It is re-enforced in paragraph 3 where all restrictions are remove.  “The state shall not discriminate against, deny, or interfere with the exercise of the rights set forth in this section in  the  regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services or information.

Section 2599-bb does indeed mention up to 24 weeks, fetus viability and patients life and health, but here is the pitfall, the writer fell into.  Define health.  Mental, physical, financial or social/economic health?  In a court of law, up to interpretation, health becomes a deliberately vague term.  At the hands of the aggressive abortionist, it can mean up to time of birth.  The patient and abortionist, according to the law as New York State enacted, can decide if the woman is too stressed to take care of a baby, or feels she does not want to support another life, that mental or financial health would be grounds for aborting the child at anytime.

Now here is the scary part of the law, in this section of the legislation, any person licensed under Title 8 of the education law, as a “licensed health-care practitioner” can perform the abortion, including a chiropractor, midwife, psychiatrist, podiatrist, physical therapist, and yes, eye doctor and pharmacist.  https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/EDN/T8

Up until this law passed in New York, it was a homicide, if in the commission of a crime, a woman who is at least 24 weeks pregnant, should lose the child.  S00240 strips that personhood provision from all laws criminal, civil and administrative, deeming abortion under any condition would not be criminalized, whether intentional after 24 weeks or as a victim of a crime, such as domestic violence, assault, robbery and homicide.

This nation was founded on the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Note, that our founders placed life above all others.  Ironically, pro-choice activist call it reproductive rights, yet how can we reproduce if we abort the child?   The chant of my body, my choice, does nothing to protect or speak for the right of that gestating child, awaiting their right to life.

Except in the case of rape and incest, a woman makes a conscious choice to engage in behavior that causes a pregnancy.  The child had no choice and did nothing wrong to deserve a death sentence.  There are millions of childless couples who would welcome lovingly those unwanted children.  I have had the pleasure of speaking with a child of rape.  As an adult, she connected with her birth mother, who welcomed her with much joy into her life.

The writer cited statistics regarding “maternal” mortality, yet, did not state whether they were pregnancy related, due to domestic violence, vehicle involved or even of natural causes.

My heart breaks for the writer’s cousin who struggles with his birthday/mother’s death day.  I am sorry that they did not choose a different path and encourage him to view it the day he received the greatest gift of a mother’s love.  Rather than mourning her loss, they could have encouraged him to celebrate her love and life.  They could have created a memory of her by bringing her to life in words, pictures and memories

Since 1972 in just the United States, the number of children aborted could fill the 2019 Super Bowl Stadium 860 times according to the Human Defense Initiative.  That amounts to 60 million people, denied life.  Was one of them the person who could have achieved world peace, end hunger or cure cancer?

According to historian R. J. Rummel, socialist governments killed 110 million of their own people between 1900 to 1987.  In just 47 years, we’ve killed 60 million innocent children.  Which society is the more efficient killing machine?

4 Cop Killers Up For Parole

February 26, 1988 was a cold day and it would prove to be the last day of life for NYPD Police Officer Edward Byrne.  Four cold blooded killers on the orders of a convicted drug dealer planned and executed Officer Byrne assigned to the 109th Precinct in New York City as he guarded a witness's home.  Eddie was my friend.

This November these killers are eligible for parole and every two years thereafter.  Their names are: Philip Copeland, Todd Scott, Scott Cobb, and David McClary.  As I write this, numerous campaigns are writing to the New York State Parole Board to protest against any parole for these men.

I first met Eddie Byrne in July 1986 when we both attended the  NYC Police Academy, he was in my sister company.  At meal times we all gathered around the picnic table in the small pizzeria around the corner studying and quizzing each other.  During Gym, when we lined up to run laps being the shortest, I would be at the rear of my platoon and Eddie being the tallest was at the front of his.  Often he was on my heels pushing me to be my best and when the ranks were reversed, I paid him back in kind, often hitting the back of his sneakers to let him know I was right there.

After graduation, I went to the 90th Precinct in Brooklyn and he to the 109th in Queens. Of course promises of keeping in touch don't always get kept, but the rumor mills do let you know how friends are doing.  The Sergeant's Exams were coming up in 1988 and everyone was hitting the books and we knew someone like Eddie would surely ace the exam and become a "Boss".

On that tragic February day, Eddie Bryne reported for a midnight tour of duty.  It was my RDO (Regular Day Off).  In the 109, a brave citizen was targeted by local drug dealers, because he dared to keep the police notified of suspicious activity in his neighborhood and had the audacity to be willing to testify against them.  The witness Arjune, a Guyanese immigrant, who believed in an America based upon justice and the law, was paid back by having his home fire bombed twice and numerous threats were made against him.  Meanwhile Howard "Pappy" Mason who ran the drug business in Arjune's neighborhood was convicted and sitting in prison.  To intimidate the locals, Mason wanted to "ice a cop" and ordered a killing.  His partner Lorenzo "Fat Cat" Nichols was implicated but never convicted in the plot.  Four men, decided to act on Mason's orders and Copeland, Scott,  Cobb, and McClary on two separate occasions cased the home of Arjune, but called off the hit.  The first time was because the officer was a female and the second, because the officer was black.

That evening at Roll Call, Officer Byrne was assigned the Fixed Post outside of Arjune's house and given a Chevrolet Caprice that was used as the K-9 Patrol Car.  In a K-9 car the rear seat is removed and a hard plastic & wire cage is installed so the Officer Handler can place the dog inside.  The construction at the time was bulky and inhibited the driver and passenger side field of vision in almost all areas behind the front seat. He had limited view through the rear window.  No partner was assigned to Officer Byrne and he was dispatched to the post to guard Arjune's house.

Midnight tours on Fixed Posts tend to be quiet.  The mere presence of the police often serves as a deterrent to criminal activity.  Officer Byrne to fill the quiet hours brought his study guide for the upcoming Sergeant's Exam.  At 3:03 AM the Scott, Cobb and McClary pulled up along side Officer Byrnes Patrol car and exited.  It is believed it was Todd Scott who knocked on the passenger side window for Officer Byrne's attention as David McClary creeped up on the drivers side.  Scott Cobb acted as lookout and driver.  Copeland directed the entire plan and took the orders from Mason.  McClary fired five (5) shots into the back of Eddie Byrnes head.

Officer Byrne was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he died of his wounds. He was only 22 years old. he lived at home with his mother and father who was retired from NYPD.  His brothers were also "On The Job".  Eddie was going to college at night and had not yet married, but dreamed of a family of his own.



The effect of the brazen, yet cowardly murder on not just the citizens of New York City and it's police force, but on the nation was to embolden them into action against these criminals.  President Ronald Reagan personally called the Byrnes Family to offer condolences.  G.H. Bush carried Eddies shield when he campaigned in 1988 for the Presidency.  The actions initiated by "Pappy" Mason resulted in the uniting of the community with NYPD to form TNT (Tactical Narcotic Teams) and SNEU (Street Narcotics Enforcement Units).

Eddie Byrne was a friend, a colleague and dedicated Police officer.  We graduated the Police Academy together.  On the night he was executed, he was studying for the Sergeant's Exam.  A bright future in NYPD was extinguished.  A family was devastated.  Friends and colleagues were bereaved. And not just a city, but a nation was horrified by the actions of this cold blooded murderer.

When I started Southern Sense on Blog Talk Radio

I had no idea where it would lead me.

A little more than a year previous, along with 4 others, we started the Beaufort Tea Party in Beaufort, South Carolina.

It took off and we supported and encouraged the establishment of the Hilton Head and Bluffton Tea Parties.  The result of my activism was happily an invite to the Governor's Mansion for a luncheon on the economy and a Christmas Party.  That evolved into an invite to the Inaugural Ball for Nikki Haley.  Boy, from a quiet retired citizen to political activist has been an interesting road.

I have made friends with so many people across the board, that to define what a conservative looks like is impossible.  I have met Black, Gay, Asian, Jewish and reformed liberals, who are now, conservatives.  To only name a few.  As we grow as conservatives, more come out of the closet, so to speak.

To say there are no Black Conservatives is to deny the legacy of Fredrick Douglass and those who follow in his legacy.  In fact, I found, because of my Blog Talk Radio show, I have attracted an audience of a varied backgroud and ethnic heritage.

I must be doing something "Right"!  So Monday, March 7th, I have been invited to be a guest on Perry Steeles's show here on Blog Talk Radio.  I look forward to the show and hope you will join us!  I look forward to a time we can have an open dialogue to help place this wonderful nation onto a positve path to recovery and prosperity!

Hey NAACP, What Planet Are You Living On?

Recently the NAACP has voted for a resolution to denounce the Tea Parties as White Racists and gun toting violent groups.  Say WHAT?  Did anyone bother to tell the hundreds of thousands of Black Republicans and Conservatives?  Did anyone tell the National Black Republicans, AACONS (African-American Conservatives), the Hip Hop Republicans or the Fredrick Douglass Foundation?  What about the large number of Black Conservatives running for the Senate and Congress, such as Colonel West or Star Parker?

I doubt sincerely that one single member of the NAACP has ever attended a Tea Party, much less spoke in an equitable dialogue with a Tea Party organizer.  Yes, many of us are licensed gun owners, but that does not mean we will ever advocate violence, especially if based upon racial discrimination.





We can turn blue in the face reminding the NAACP that it was the Republican Party that was the party of abolitionists and civil rights.  But revisionists will always be deniers and refuse to see the truth.  As long as we hold the truth and our beliefs  in our hearts and depart it to our children then in time history will vindicate us and villify the destructive elements in our society.  Keep your faith strong, Patriots!

Heck, I can't be as eloquent as Wayne Bradley and he has a far better vantage point to argue with the NAACP.  So read his blog at "Conservative is Cool" and let him tell it like it is!
