Open debate and public policy needs more than this meager platform. But, in today's instant gratification society how do we make it occur and be momentous in political platforms?
Recently, the Supreme Court of our Nation made two historical dissension;
1st: In King v. Burwell, they voted to uphold Obamacare. While Chief Justice Roberts stated the bill was "inartfully drafted, it was the duty of the Supreme Court to translate the bills language". WRONG! If the Supremes did their job right, they should have sent the bill back to Congress for clarification and rewrite. Instead, they chose to make law and redefine the definition of "State". In a descent, Justice Anton Scalia railed, "We should start calling this law SCOTUScare."
2nd: Same Sex Marriage! WRONG This is a States' issue not a Federal case. To begin with, all "marriages start with a legal license issued on the local or state level. By law these licenses are known as "Civil Unions". They do not require a religious institution or authority to officiate. Once a religious institution or authority recognizes said "Civil Union" it transforms into a religious rite of "Marriage".
The Supreme Court should have tossed the case back to the states and have them define "Civil Unions" and recognize that "Marriage" is a religious rite protected by the 1st Amendment. Once government defined marriage, they now have the power to control religion and our beliefs.
This is a slippery slope we don't want to ride down!
What the "Right" has failed to do, is pick up the fight banner and take away the word marriage and enter "Civil Unions". Had they done that, there would be no argument.
A civil union couple have all of the same rights as a religiously married couple. They have the freedom to seek a religious institution that accepts same sex couples. They have the ability to acquire legal protection of prenuptial's, wills and testaments, living wills, inheritance, guardianship, etc. All of the legal protections all civilly united and married couples enjoy.
By failing to protect the religious liberty of of the public and also business owners of bake shops, jewelery stores, banquet venues and even religious property, the Supreme Court has, in a stroke of the pen, cancelled out the 1st Amendment right of all Americans of freedom of religion. All religious churches, temples, mosques and places of worship are now subject to debilitating law suits from same sex couples, should they refuse to perform their marriage vows.
In a matter of 24 hours, the Supreme Court delivered two devastating blows on American liberty. They have cancelled out states rights and religious freedom.
As I prayed and sought solace, I opened the Bible. It fell upon Romans 16:17
17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Need I say more?
