What's wrong with New Yorks Abortion bill




In response to a Letter to the Editor “Look closer at abortion bill” Beaufort Gazette, 02/15/2019, in reference to New York States recently passed “Reproductive Health Act” S00240.  Many of us did take a good look at the bill and want to correct the writer’s errors.

Section 2599-aa, paragraph 2 states “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child,  or  to have an abortion, pursuant to this article.

This means, up to time of birth.  It is re-enforced in paragraph 3 where all restrictions are remove.  “The state shall not discriminate against, deny, or interfere with the exercise of the rights set forth in this section in  the  regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services or information.

Section 2599-bb does indeed mention up to 24 weeks, fetus viability and patients life and health, but here is the pitfall, the writer fell into.  Define health.  Mental, physical, financial or social/economic health?  In a court of law, up to interpretation, health becomes a deliberately vague term.  At the hands of the aggressive abortionist, it can mean up to time of birth.  The patient and abortionist, according to the law as New York State enacted, can decide if the woman is too stressed to take care of a baby, or feels she does not want to support another life, that mental or financial health would be grounds for aborting the child at anytime.

Now here is the scary part of the law, in this section of the legislation, any person licensed under Title 8 of the education law, as a “licensed health-care practitioner” can perform the abortion, including a chiropractor, midwife, psychiatrist, podiatrist, physical therapist, and yes, eye doctor and pharmacist.  https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/EDN/T8

Up until this law passed in New York, it was a homicide, if in the commission of a crime, a woman who is at least 24 weeks pregnant, should lose the child.  S00240 strips that personhood provision from all laws criminal, civil and administrative, deeming abortion under any condition would not be criminalized, whether intentional after 24 weeks or as a victim of a crime, such as domestic violence, assault, robbery and homicide.

This nation was founded on the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Note, that our founders placed life above all others.  Ironically, pro-choice activist call it reproductive rights, yet how can we reproduce if we abort the child?   The chant of my body, my choice, does nothing to protect or speak for the right of that gestating child, awaiting their right to life.

Except in the case of rape and incest, a woman makes a conscious choice to engage in behavior that causes a pregnancy.  The child had no choice and did nothing wrong to deserve a death sentence.  There are millions of childless couples who would welcome lovingly those unwanted children.  I have had the pleasure of speaking with a child of rape.  As an adult, she connected with her birth mother, who welcomed her with much joy into her life.

The writer cited statistics regarding “maternal” mortality, yet, did not state whether they were pregnancy related, due to domestic violence, vehicle involved or even of natural causes.

My heart breaks for the writer’s cousin who struggles with his birthday/mothers death day.  I am sorry that they did not choose a different path and encourage him to view it the day he received the greatest gift of a mother’s love.  Rather than mourning her loss, they could have encouraged him to celebrate her love and life.  They could have created a memory of her by bringing her to life in words, pictures and memories

Since 1972 in just the United States, the number of children aborted could fill the 2019 Super Bowl Stadium 860 times according to the Human Defense Initiative.  That amounts to 60 million people, denied life.  Was one of them the person who could have achieved world peace, end hunger or cure cancer?

According to historian R. J. Rummel, socialist governments killed 110 million of their own people between 1900 to 1987.  In just 47 years, we’ve killed 60 million innocent children.  Which society is the more efficient killing machine?
